Zero odor doesn't just claim to cover-up smells... It claims to eliminate them. Makers say it works through molecular science. The directions say zero odor bonds with odor molecules in an irreversible chemical reaction. This bonding creates new molecules -- non-odor molecules. And since there are no longer any odor molecules, there is no longer any odor.
Zero odor molecular chemistry
When you spray zero odor, its anti-odor molecules seek out and bond with odor molecules of just about every kind, changing them into molecules that can never again cause odor. Since zero odor stops odor at its source, it needs no harsh chemicals and it needs no scent of its own.
Independent laboratory studies of zero odor
The scientific instrument that most accurately measures odors is the Gas Chromatograph. This instrument can measure odor down to only a few parts per million ?levels that are imperceptible to the noses of humans or animals.
Soiled cat litter has long been characterized as the source of the worst household odor. When the odor from soiled cat litter is entered into the Chromatograph it registers at levels that are highly offensive to humans and 100 times more powerful to cats.
When those same samples of litter are sprayed with zero odor, the Gas Chromatograph levels fall to zero on all odor measurements - meaning that the litter odor will no longer be detectable by the human nose nor by the much more sensitive nose of the cat.
Some zero odor reviews

I tried zero odor because I have a nasty cat ...he likes to mark the territory. I used zero odor to begin with on a stain which had been soaked several times, and after a couple of sprayings and a few swipes of paper towels, it was gone, and has not come back. I gave each of my kids bottles as they both have dogs. However, the first casualty at my daughter's house was a sick child vomiting. After cleaning it up, there was a terrible smell left. She sprayed the zero odor on it, and it diasppeared. She is also a believer!

I tried zero odor after seeing the commercial on TV. I have 3 dogs, and one has a dominance problem, he urinates in all the wrong places. zero odor seemed to work at first. It has a clean smell that dissipates right away. However, the smells in the rug come back. The ad says you may have to re-treat. The product is too expensive for the many times I need to re-do certain spots. Stains do not disappear. I am not so convinced that it works that I am willing to buy more to re-treat the rugs. Selling 3 sizes of bottles is just plain a waste of plastic.
